NJ Sharing Network

April is Donate Life Month.  Petty Motorworks sponsors a team (The Organ-izers) for NJ Sharing Network's annual 5K walk or Run but unfortunately this event was changed to a virtual celebration at the Long Branch Location and it will be postponed for the New Providence location.  Organ and Tissue donation is a very important topic to our family and our team does a great job supporting NJ Sharing Network.  We have five living kidney donors, two kidney recipients and one bone marrow recipient and we will spend Sunday, May 17th celebrating life through organ and tissue donation. Our team raised over $4000 dollars last year and we are determined to grow this year. Learn more about NJ Sharing Network HERE

Events

Well seeing that everything has been cancelled I think we will need to get a little creative with some things to do.
  • Work in your garden or yard - St.Patrick's Day is when I start working my garden.  My daughters have already worked many of the beds and planted some cold season crops.  Snow peas are one of our favorites and hopefully our local ground hog won't get them before us.
  • Take a walk in your neighborhood.  Just because we are under orders to keep our social distance it doesn't mean we shouldn't stay fit.  Get some exercise, healthy body means a healthy mind.
  • Join an online fitness or yoga group.  There are many options out there and I quickly found a Gentle Yoga 30 exercise on YouTube.  Click Here to view.
  • Plan a fun night in the kitchen or support you local restaurants with their take out options.
    • How about a make your own pizza.  Many of our favorite pizza take out places are offering take out kits that include everything you need except the special toppings.
  • Please comment below if you have any additional ideas

Fun Facts

#1 Did you know that banging your head against the wall for one hour burns 150 Calories?  I don't recommend testing this even with the onset of cabin fever but I thought it was funny.
Alternatively you can walk your dog for 45 minutes and burn the same amount.  I have heard that some dogs are actually hiding from their owners because they have been walked to death.

#2 In Switzerland it is illegal to own just one guinea pig.
This is because guinea pigs are social animals, and they are considered victims of abuse if they are alone. Why isn’t this a law everywhere?!

#3 A flock of Crows is known as a Murder.
So, if there are only a couple crows does this make it an Attempted Murder?😂

#4 Did you know that 7% of Americans believe that chocolate milk comes from brown cows.
I know this sounds like a pretty low number but that equates to about 16 million adults.

#5 Billy goats urinate on their own heads to smell more attractive to females.

Billy goats, or bucks is the name given to male goats. Generally they urinate on themselves in late summer through fall, and for us humans, it’s not a pleasant smell.
#6 If Pinocchio says “My Nose Will Grow Now”, it would cause a paradox.
This is known as Pinocchio’s Paradox. If you think about it, Pinocchio’s nose would have to grow to make his statement not a lie, but then it can’t grow otherwise the statement would not be a lie.
#7 Did you know that in 2017 more people were killed from injuries caused by taking a selfie than by shark attacks?
There were only 5 deaths due to shark attacks in 2017, which is lower than the average year. The average amount of deaths caused by sharks is 6. Worldwide, there were 35 deaths caused by taking selfies in 2017.
#8 Saint Lucia is the only country in the world named after a woman.
Saint Lucia was discovered by the French after they were shipwrecked on the island. They arrived on December 13th which is the feast day of Saint Lucy – hence, why they named it Saint Lucia! If you’re planning a vacation, why not check out these random fun facts about Saint Lucia!
#9 The following can be read forward and backwards: Do geese see God?

This sentence is what is called a “palindrome.” The word itself is from the Greek “palin” meaning “back,” and “dromos” meaning “direction.”
#10 A sheep, a duck and a rooster were the first passengers in a hot air balloon.
You read that right – in 1783, the first hot air balloon was launched carrying a sheep, duck, and a rooster. The flight lasted for 8 minutes before landing safely with its passengers.
